Tape one talks about mum, radio with George Edwards, army service, Rusty Bugles. Knew Annette Kellerman. Says Kellerman advised him to go to the US in the late 1930s saying his style of writing and his personality would fit in there. A chance meeting at the party let to him meeting someone at NBC who wanted a script for Of Human Bondage.

Tape 2 talks about early TV days. Wrote alongside Gore Vidal and for directors like Paddy Chayefsky and actors like Kim Stanley. Said lots of great writers, actors and directors. Loved Fred Coe. Wrote an Australian comedy based on the Ern Malley scandal said had his only argument with Coe over casting. Same comedy not Coe's forte and the play was a mess. (Daisy Daisy)

7.30-8.44 talks about the adrenaline of live drama.

"Curiously enough it drove the actors to a peak of nerves that never happened on tape... It all got dreary when we went on tape... It was never as violent and fascinating as when you went up against 45 million people.

Said went into decline with specials.

Then started writing novels.
