Original TV Play
It was by Malcolm Haulke and Eric Paice. It aired in 1958 for British TV's Armchair Theatre starring Stanley Baker. A review is here.
Paice's play The Big Client was also filmed for Australian TV.
Rex Rienits liked it I think in 1960 he wrote to their agents asking for this and others.
Production
It was directed by Henri Safran, his last play before he left for a six-month overseas tour.
The production was shot in Sydney.
Reception
The Bulletin said it was "no Rififi but it was fairly good television drama, with a solid performance by Ken Goodlet." This was Frank Roberts who hated Australian writing - he attacked Manhaul, written for the commercial channels, in the same review.
The Woman's Weekly called it "well produced". LITV called it "a pallid, drawn out thing."
