I read through some books relating to the ABC today and they got to me. The self entitlement and mediocrity of people associated with the ABC during the early days of TV. Some of the people, I should say. I'm thinking in particular of Mungo McCallum and Clement Semmer but also people like Chris Muir. Men - always men - who would whinge about what ABC drama produced, and the lack of decent local scripts and writers, and complain as if they world owed them a living.
I'm sure in person they were charming, well educated and bright, capable of professional work. But they weren't giants in their field so they might have a little bit more empathy.
This is a grumpy post that I may deleted down the track but after researching ABC drama for a year I'm getting sick of the self entitled mediocrities who seemed to rise to positions of power in that organisation. Snobby, self entitled, acting as if the world owed them a living. I do believe they were in a minority but they seemed to hold positions of power. I don't want this to be interpreted as anti-ABC, I love the ABC, it is and was so vital, it was the only game in town for so many years, but it seemed to attract a lot of wankers.
